The Centura was Chrysler Australia's answer to the Ford Cortina and Holden
Torana. A mid sized (for Australia) sedan, it is based on the French built Simca
1800 with different front sheet metal. It was available with a 2.0L 4 cylinder a
3.5L(215ci)Hemi 6 and a 4.0L(245ci) Hemi 6. They were never marketed as a
performance car but from my personal experience I can tell you that the 245
powered version is a rocket ship, in a straight line anyway. They are very heavy
in the front end and very light at the rear end. Due to it's very uneven weight
distribution the rear of the car tries to overtake the front of the car whenever
you put the foot to the floor. The fact they started life as a 2.0L 4
cylinder shows that they are grossly overpowered when Chrysler Australia slotted
the 4.0L,245 Hemi into the extended, strengthened and modified Simca's engine bay.
Overall the 6 cylinder models weigh 1250KG.
